More Good with Less Stuff 

The ‘More Good with Less Stuff’ course will be developed for Year 3 and 4 students (Curriculum levels 1-2). It will introduce some aspects about sustainability. In particular it will look at how we can use less stuff.

Draft outline of the modules:

  • What is sustainability? Sustainability is about making things last.
  • Why is it good to make things last?
  • Think about examples of how things are made to last.
2Sharing
  • Is it good to share or to be greedy? Why?
  • How does sharing make things last?
  • Find/discuss examples of how people share.
3Caring
  • Is it good to look after your things, or not? Why?
  • How does looking after things make them last?
  • Find/discuss examples of how people care for things.
4Simplicity
  • Is it good to have everything you need? Or everything you want?
  • How do we know when enough is enough?
  • Find/discuss examples of how people live well with not too much.
5Enjoying
  • Is it good to enjoy doing things? Why?
  • How does enjoying things make them last?
  • Find/discuss examples of people getting more enjoyment from things.
6Prevention
  • Is it good to be healthy? Why?
  • How does looking after your health help make things last?
  • Find/discuss examples of how being healthy makes things last.
7Saving
  • Is it good to save? Or is it good to use everything up? Why?
  • How does saving help make things last? This is about conservation.
  • Find/discuss examples where saving helps make things last.
8Quality
  • Is it good to buy things that are made to last? Or not? Why?
  • How does buying quality things help make them last?
  • Find/discuss examples where quality makes things last.
9Thinking ahead
  • Is it good to think ahead? Or just do things and see what happens?
  • How does thinking ahead make things last? This is about planning.
